Recently at the Tourism Indaba in Durban South Africa, the School of Tourism and Hospitality Commercial Unit, won the best casual dining restaurant catagory and the overall best restaurant in South Africa. The award was presented by the Tourism Department of South Africa.

Johannesburg as a food destination? No, don't think so. There are some great restaurants, there are some good restaurants and then all the others. My biggest grip with Johannesburg's restaurant scene as a whole is that there are beautiful restaurants but then the food doesn't live up.

may 15th is the official opening of the copper river salmon season. while no fish was available last year due to reduction in fish number caused by overfishing the previous years. this year it is said fishermen can catch up to 77ooo fish, a reduction of 3000 fish annualy over the last decade to protect future supply. this fish is highly prized because of its limited supply and highly sought after due to its high omega 3 fatty acid contents.
